TorchLight is the first game from a new gaming company called Runic Games. The company name might not sound familar because the company itself was formed in 2008 after the collapse of Flagship Studios. Still not rigning any bells? Well the CEO or Runic Games was previously a key member of Blizzard North, who brought you such titles as Diablo 2 and Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction. If you still don’t know who or what i’m talking about you need to have yourself checked out or seek some professional help.
TorchLight has been ripped on for being a Diablo 2 clone, but seeing as these people were directly involved in creating Diablo 2 it is hard to call it a clone at all. I have yet to actually play TorchLight unfortunately but the game play videos and teasers have me very excited and the price is right for the game.
TorchLight cost $20 to directly download it from the Game’s Website. Nicely priced game compared to all the others that are currently coming out these days. I’m sure a lot of that has to do with the fact that it’s a smaller development shop, there is little overhead for distrubtion and they’ve done little to no advertising.
I am eager to see where these guys can go from here, hopefully Runic Games ends up better than Flagship Studios. I am still sore from purchasing a Lifetime Subscription to Hellgate: London.
For now I leave you with several in game videos and demos:
